Big Horn defeated Flying H Ranch 9-8
The 3rd annual Archie MacCarty Memorial was played Tuesday, August 5th at the Flying H Polo Club in Big Horn, WY. The Flying H Polo Club is just across the fence from the Big Horn Polo Club. Big Horn is one of the nation's oldest polo clubs dating back to the 1890's. It has a strong membership roster. Each summer up to 40 players compete on the club's 4 polo fields. Usually the teams participating average between 4 and 6 goals.
In 2006 Skee Johnston came up with the idea to give the local young players a chance to play with the professional players next door at the Flying H Polo Club. This great opportunity allows these youngsters an experience at the 18 goal level.
Archie MacCarty, who this tournament was named after, was the former
Flying H Ranch manager. Three of his grandsons, Ty, Will and Ford MacCarty,
have participated all 3 years since its inception.
The match was an eight period cut-in game which allowed each young player to play as many chukkers as possible with the professional players.
Matt Huckeba, a local youth who works young horses for the Flying H Ranch was named MVP.
